Join Foundations in Genesis Idaho on a biblically-based adventure to learn how catastrophic floods and violent volcanic activity created this incredible system of gulches! Red canyons with steep walls and towering pinnacles will leave you in awe as you see God’s beauty after devastation. Look and listen for the desert wildlife as we explore this natural wonder.

Rough Road
High-clearance vehicles (8-inch minimum clearance) are required for this field trip, since there are deep washouts at three points along the road through the gulch. Carpooling is encouraged. If you do not have a high-clearance vehicle but would like to attend, please note it on your sign-up form and we will see how many seats we have available in suitable vehicles.

Meetup
When: 7:30 am ** Early start to avoid high temperatures**
Leave by 7:45 am
Where: We will gather at the Extramile Chevron 5644 Buntrock Rd, Marsing, ID 83639.
Overview: We will then travel caravan-style to the Leslie Gulch area (~1 hour drive to beginning of gulch) across the border into Oregon. We hope to make a couple of short stops with hikes and geological information and our final stop will be for lunch at the Slocum Creek Campground/Picnic Area near the Lake Owyhee reservoir.

What to Bring
Please bring the following items if you have them:
- Plenty of Water per person
- Snacks
- Sack Lunch
- Sun protection (hats, sunglasses)
- Sturdy, close-toed, walking/hiking shoes
- Binoculars for the wildlife! (Golden Eagle, Chukar, Lazuli Bunting, etc.)
- Pants suggested (will be walking through close brush on the trail)
- Walking poles suggested

Additional Important Information
This trip is considered a full-day field trip with the drive time (~1 hour 40 minutes from Marsing to the reservoir). We are hoping to beat the heat by starting early to see this incredible area.
The stops require moderate hiking at times with full sun. There are vault (outhouse) toilets at various points along the Leslie Gulch area. We will eat our personal sack lunches at our final destination near the Lake Owyhee reservoir. Consideration of heat and desert creatures, including rattlesnakes, is a reason to keep on trail and watch for little ones. (No dogs please). You may depart at your leisure.
A suggested donation of $5 per person is recommended, or a maximum of $20 per family.
Please sign up below so that we know who is coming! We look forward to seeing you!
